Introducing the Guide to Translation Management and the COMET Translation Resource Center

Motivated by a Global Campus planning meeting in October 2015, MSC and COMET set out to support the WMO community's efforts to expand the availability of training materials through translation. As part of that effort, David Russi (COMET) and Rebecca Schneider (MSC) collaborated to author a Guide to Translation Management. As professional translators, they are aware of the deceptively complex nature of the translation process. Their guide explains the translation process, describes some possible pitfalls and ways to avoid them, and offers guidance in creating a translation team, including the selection of a translation company or independent translators. It also describes translation and distribution formats, rates, tools, resources, and best practices. Included are sample checklists, guidelines and instruction sheets that can be customized for use in various stages of the translation process.  

The Guide to Translation Management is now available on a COMET Moodle site: the COMET Translation Resource Center (TRC). Here you'll find resources to guide and support your translation efforts and a forum to exchange ideas and resources.

David will be conducting 1-hour webinars in English and Spanish to introduce the TRC and the Guide to Translation Management. We hope you have an opportunity to join him. Please use the links to register. We'll post a recording of the webinars in late March.

Introducción al Centro de recursos de traducción de COMET - WEBINAR EN ESPAÑOL

David Russi, el traductor de español de COMET, presentará un webinar de una hora de duración para introducir el centro de recursos de traducción (Translation Resource Center, TRC), una nueva iniciativa del Campus Global de la OMM. 

El centro apoya los esfuerzos de la comunidad de la Organización Meteorológica Mundial (OMM) para ampliar la disponibilidad de materiales de instrucción mediante su traducción. Este webinar describirá la traducción en general, el proceso de traducción y cómo gestionar un proyecto de traducción. También presentará el centro de recursos de traducción de COMET, que brinda acceso a la Guía para la gestión de proyectos de traducción y a otros recursos útiles para apoyar el trabajo de traducción, así como un foro para el intercambio de ideas y recursos. 

El webinar se ofrecerá en español el 15 de marzo a las 1600 UTC.
