Join us for CALMet 2017 in Melbourne, Australia!

29 Aug-1 Sept 2017 Melbourne, Australia
Hosted by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre

Join the international CALMet community for four days of sharing best practices in training for the meteorological, hydrologic, and climate workforce. The Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre is our host for our next biennial, in-person gathering. Start thinking of exciting presentations and workshops to submit when our call for proposals opens in January. The themes are:
Best practices in implementing learning and development activitiesWhat are some of the biggest challenges and successes you’ve had with implementing your training activities? Share insights on project management practices, defining and measuring competencies, developing targeted content, finding the perfect instructor, marketing and distributing your program or course, and any other processes related to implementation.
Core competencies trainingThere is a growing need for NMHS’ to enhance their staff’s communication, decision support services, and project management skills. Share your experiences and thoughts on how to best address this increasingly important niche in your training portfolio.
Active teaching techniquesThe days of posting a non-interactive slide deck to a website and calling it training should be in our past. Our community has matured in its approach to instruction. Share successes and lessons learned in developing and delivering engaging, interactive learning experiences.
Future training needsHow do we assure that your plans for spending next year’s training budget will be effective in addressing next year’s needs? As processes and tools evolve, trainers need to have an effective means of identifying upcoming changes and developing appropriate training plans. They also need to account for changes in the demographics of future trainees and match training pedagogy to cultural and generational characteristics.
CollaborationCloud-based services, open educational resources, MOOCs, Moodle, Global Campus, etc., etc.. These are all elements of the collaborative environment that we all participate in to extend the reach and enhance the depth of our training offerings. Share your training experiences that have benefitted from collaborative engagement. Or propose the next block-buster collaborative endeavor that will rock the CALMet community!

Call for proposals will be open from 09 January through 14 April 2017.
