An HTML/JavaScript Case Study Simulator

I recently created a dust event case study in simulator format. The simulator is written in HTML and JavaScript in order that it will run on any browser on any platform which, as far as I am aware, it does! This simulator is available on the CALMet Resources on the CALMET Commos site. Its zipped up for easy download. The file contains a readme file which gives brief instructions on how to make the simulator work. It should be easy to change the files to suit your own simulation. However, if you need assistance please get in touch and I will be happy to help you.

In its current form the simulator runs at five times normal speed (the speed can be changed to any speed you wish).

This simulator was used in a satellite course and so is weighted towards satellite imagery but can easily be adapted to display NWP data, SYNOP data or anything else for that matter. The sim can also contain tasks and in this case has Word documents which can be downloaded and used to produce forecasts during the simulation.

At the CALMet Conference in Toulouse I went to a Simulator Workshop, one of the most enjoyable sessions I attended, and this reinforced my opinion that simulators are an extremely useful technique which allows learning while doing, an exercise which I believe to be one of the most effective methods of training forecasters.

If you train forecasters, please feel free to download this sim and amend it to suit your own case study. Please feel free to contact me as I will be happy to help you repupose this simulator for your own use.

Download this simulator here.
